This small country was once a part of Yugoslavia and therefore many people don’t know where it is or that it even exists! It even often gets confused with Slovakia, which is almost Slovenia’s neighboring country, but there is Hungary between them.

- Slovenians wear traditional masks and costumes in a ritual called Kurentovanje, to scare away the winter. The ritual has been going on for more than 50 years.
- Slovenia is one of the world’s most environmentally-friendly nations.
- More than 50% of Slovenia is protected land, which is a higher percentage than any other nation on Earth except Venezuela.
- There’s a vineyard for every 70 people. They produce some of the world-class vines.

Piran is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Adriatic Sea. The town has narrow streets and beautiful houses. It is certainly one of the major tourist attractions. You can see a statue of the Piran-born violinist Giuseppe Tartini. Furthermore, it stands in the center of the main square. Even more, admire rock art, climb the Piran Bell Tower, and go on a boat trip.

Predjama Castle was built in Renaissance. It was built in the stone wall to make access to it difficult. Furthermore, the castle became known as the seat of the knight Erasmus. Due to the fact, that the knight was betrayed by one of his men, he was shot from a cannon in his lavatory. There is also a hidden passageway that Erasmus used to secretly supply the castle.

Slovenian underground hides thousands of caves. The most visited one is Postojna Cave. Certainly, because you enter it by train. It is the second-largest cave system in the country. Also, one of the top tourist destinations. There, you can see the human fish there, which is an endangered blind salamander, that is pink and has 4 legs.

Bus tour to Bled
Bled is about an hour away from Ljubljana. It is known for the glacial Lake Bled. Even more, perched on a rock overlooking the lake is the beautiful Bled Castle. Furthermore, you have to try the town-known desert called Kremšnita. There is also a small island in the middle of the lake with a church. Visitors frequently ring a bell for good luck. Certainly, you need to get to the island on a wooden boat.

This is Slovenia’s deepest lake. There are not so many tourists here as at the more famous Bled lake. But it certainly is equally beautiful. It is calming, beautiful and relaxing.
